Volunteer-in-the-school-in-Vietnam

What's the matter?

The school that you support as a volunteer is located in a rural region in the north of the country. The often poor rural population of Vietnam is disadvantaged in many areas, including in the education sector. During your volunteer work, you can actively support the local teachers in order to guarantee the students the best possible education. As a volunteer, you can counteract the lack of teachers and supervisors. For example, teach English or get involved in hygiene teaching - support is always welcome!

The school is in a small village with about 70 households. There are around 20 children in each class. The school is simple but has modern sanitary facilities. The people who live in the village are mostly very poor due to the isolated location. The biggest problem at the school is the lack of teachers, especially for English classes. Here you can support as a volunteer!

Your tasks as a volunteer

As a volunteer, you can take on a variety of tasks at the school. The area where you can best support is in English classes. Once you have familiarized yourself and feel confident, you may be able to take on your own language units in consultation with the local teachers. Especially in the field of foreign languages, the local teachers are often not sufficiently qualified.

The children here also eat at school, so you can also help with the preparation of meals and with cleaning and tidying up the school. In the crafts area, you can also get involved in the construction of furniture, such as bookshelves. An important part of the education of young children is also to educate them about hygiene. It is important that they learn, for example, to wash their hands regularly to avoid illness.

The day at school usually starts between 8:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. You usually work at school until 16 p.m. at the latest. Your daily working time is usually between five and eight hours. Evenings and weekends are free to explore the area.

But a multi-day trip to Vietnam's capital Hanoi is also absolutely worthwhile and there you can gather many exciting impressions.

You can always ask your local team for even more ideas. They will be happy to help you and give you valuable insider tips.

Arrive in Hanoi

Arrival in Vietnam

For your stay abroad in Vietnam you fly directly to the capital Hanoi. It's a good idea to spend the first night in Hanoi, especially if you land later. Our team will pick you up at the airport and you will spend the first night together in accommodation in Hanoi.

On your arrival day you can relax in peace or explore the area. The orientation program begins on your second day in Vietnam. After the first part of the orientation program in Hanoi, you will go to your final project location.

Orientation in Vietnam

Orientation program in Vietnam

Your orientation program in Vietnam starts directly in Hanoi. Together with a member of the RGV team and any volunteers who may have traveled at the same time, you will first do a city tour. You will also get an introduction to life in Vietnam and the most important dos and don'ts will be explained to you.

Together with the team member who picked you up at the airport, you will then drive to the project site in Yên Bái, about five hours northwest of Hanoi. The village where you will work is very small. About 70 families live here. On the drive you will get an insight into the breathtaking landscape of Vietnam! You can also observe the wild traffic in Hanoi from the car.

At your project location you will then receive a detailed introduction to the environment and your field of work. First you will be shown the site and you will get a general overview of the work on site. You always have a permanent contact person at your project location with whom you can discuss everything else.
