You should know that

Why you should volunteer with elephants?

Huge, impressive, very intelligent - and critically endangered. Elephants are impressive animals and meeting one of the gentle giants is a profound, magical and unforgettable experience. Although they have almost no natural enemies, they are becoming increasingly restricted in their habitat.

Elephants are now dying faster than they reproduce in most parts of the world. This applies to the African elephant – with a weight of up to 7 tons the largest land mammal in the world – as well as to the African forest elephant and the Asian elephant. All three of these species are currently on the Red List of Threatened Species.

Why do elephants need to be protected?

Poaching and habitat loss are the two main reasons for the dramatic decline in the population of this fascinating mammal. In Africa, almost 100 elephants die every day from illegal poaching. The poachers are interested in the animals' tusks: these are mainly smuggled into East Asia, where the illegal trade in ivory is thriving.

But even the conflict between humans and animals is not without its problems. The natural habitat of elephants, both in Africa and Asia, increasingly overlaps with that of humans. Since both sides want to secure land and food, there are sometimes deadly conflicts between humans and animals.

What can volunteer work with elephants look like?

There are different areas of volunteer work with elephants - while some projects focus on the care of the elephants, for example as part of sanctuaries or wildlife sanctuaries, others are dedicated to educating the local people to protect the elephants in the long term. In other projects, data is collected through observations in order to get to know all the elephants and their routes in the area.

The opportunities for volunteering are diverse and vary from country to country - you can find all of our current projects on our website. Among other things, you will find projects in Thailand, Namibia, Sri Lanka and South Africa.

What can I achieve through my volunteer work?

As a volunteer, you will get involved in projects designed to make a lasting and lasting impact. Accordingly, you contribute a valuable part to a long-lasting development! All of our tasks need your support and even the simplest tasks that you can take on will help with the daily work. It is important to note that volunteer work is not the same as development aid and that you as a volunteer support an existing project with your skills and abilities.
