Instructions for booking flights

Important information about booking flights for your time abroad

Prepare for your ticket booking

As well as you with yours Travel preparation We will also be happy to advise you on booking flights. There are many options to choose from when booking a flight and so that you don't lose track, we will give you the best tips and recommendations to suit your travel plans!

Special volunteer and internship ticket rates

You can book public ticket fares online or through any travel agency of your choice. However, we recommend that everyone traveling with RGV request a non-binding flight offer from our ticket partner.

The colleagues of our flight ticket partner are now offering you access to special flight offers, which only exists in this form in connection with RGV foreign programs.

This is how the inquiry and flight booking works:

  1. Write us a short email saying you would like a non-binding ticket offer. Important: The special offers are only available for Rainbow Garden Village volunteers and interns. An RGV confirmation of participation is required for booking.
  2. Within a very short time you will find a tailor-made, non-binding offer in your mailbox.
  3. Please clarify any queries directly with our ticket partner.
  4. Your written consent via email is required to make a binding flight booking.
  5. The ticket and ticket invoice will be issued by our ticket partner and sent to you by email.

Extremely large performance benefits and discounts

The special tariffs for volunteers, students and young people are of great advantage:

  • Maximum flexibility when it comes to rebookings and cancellations, so you can adapt your travel plans individually on site.
  • Generous baggage allowance so you can pack everything you need on site.
  • Additional discounts on one-way flights (e.g. stopovers, project or country combinations).
  • Special requests are also taken into account. Are you planning on a stopover? Would you like to stay longer in the target country after volunteering? Do you have seating requests or do you have food allergies? Simply forward your wishes to us by email.

Requirements check

For every country there are preferred airlines that are either good value for money, very reliable or flexible and inexpensive when it comes to rebooking. Therefore, it makes sense to first consider which factors are important to you when booking a ticket:

  • Direct flight or flight with a stopover?
  • Should the date of your return flight be flexible?
  • Does your travel date possibly collide with the holiday periods in the destination country?
  • What arrival dates are available according to the volunteer project?
  • Which luggage options are useful?
  • How can I offset my flight in an environmentally friendly way?
  • Do you need a Rail & Fly ticket?

Important information for self-bookers

  • If you book your flight yourself, please be sure to inquire in advance about the possible arrival days for your project. In all of our destination countries there are set arrival days on which you will be picked up at the airport. You can find this note in the project description at the top of our website.
  • It is also important that you observe the maximum length of stay specified by your visa. Your return flight must be within the period that your visa is valid in the destination country.
  • Don't forget to allow enough time for transfers!
  • Your passport needs to be valid for at least 6 months after your return.

What is to be considered in general?

Your luggage

Please note the baggage information on your e-ticket. Extra weight is always associated with a high surcharge. Either the specific permissible total weight is on the ticket or you will find the abbreviations 1 PC = 23 kg or 2 PC = 2 x 23 kg. If you are allowed to carry 2 pieces of luggage with you, each weighing 23 kg, please make sure that each piece of luggage does not exceed 23 kg.

If you have booked a ticket fare that does not have a baggage allowance, your baggage should definitely be booked in advance. Booking additional luggage at the airport is very expensive!

Climate neutral fly

Would you like to help protect the climate? Then offset the pollutant emissions caused by your flight with MyClimate! Simply let us know when you register or at the latest when you book your flight that you would like to take advantage of the MyClimate compensation for your flight and we will be happy to book it for you.

You will receive a donation receipt for your contribution and can deduct your donation contribution tax deductible.

Rail & Fly ticket

The Rail & Fly Ticket is an offer from Deutsche Bahn in cooperation with selected airlines. This means that the journey to the airport by train can be booked very cheaply.

Last check

Don't forget to check your flight times! Check the flight times two days before your flight (for a return flight!). This is easy to do via your airline’s website.

In Germany it is important to be at the airport two hours before departure for international flights, abroad we even recommend three hours before departure! Please make sure that you can show a valid passport (with a validity of at least six months after your return) and a valid entry visa when checking in. Many airlines also allow you to conveniently check in online.
