Proof of language proficiency for your volunteer work or internship abroad

Your ability to communicate locally is of central importance for your stay abroad. It is important to us that your commitment is an enrichment for you and the local people. The language requirements can vary greatly depending on the project.

For areas like animal welfare and Environmental Protection Usually enough basic knowledge.
For projects in the social and medical area Advanced foreign language skills are required. For all other areas, the requirements depend on the project.

For orientation: If you've studied English in school for five years, that's usually at an intermediate level. We accept the following documents as proof of your language skills (should not be older than two years):

  • School or final certificate (for at least five years of language classes at school)
  • Language course certificate (school, VHS, university,...)
  • Seminar certificate for a course/seminar held in the foreign language (university, VHS,...)
  • Official language certificate if you already have one handy. A copy is sufficient (e.g. DAAD, TOEFL, IELTS, DELF,...)

We also accept alternative forms of proof – just call us and inquire!

Orientation guide: Required language skills for each area

In order to complete a specialist or teaching internship, we expect cross-departmental advanced language skills.

For a successful assignment in Tanzania, we generally recommend attending a Swahili language course; We recommend attending a Sinhala language course if you want to work on our projects in Sri Lanka. Attending a Thai language course is a prerequisite for an internship in the medical field in Thailand.

If you are unsure which language skills are required for your desired project, please contact us - by email or by phone!
