Why you should consider volunteering in Nicaragua

Nicaragua has a stunning diversity of ecosystems and rich wildlife worth protecting and conserving. The living environments of the local population, known for their warmth and hospitality, are characterized by different cultural influences that can be traced back to the country's history.

But the history of Nicaragua has been shaped by a multitude of cultural influences, political upheavals and social problems. Today, despite the country's efforts towards economic growth, expanding the tourism sector and promoting sustainable development, Nicaragua still faces various challenges. These include poverty, social inequality and environmental problems.

Because Nicaragua is one of the poorest countries in Latin America. This is accompanied by high unemployment, a large informal economy and low productivity. Inequality between urban and rural areas and between different population groups is also a problem. A lack of access to education and health care exacerbates this situation. In addition, there are environmental problems such as deforestation, soil erosion and water scarcity, which are progressing more and more due to climate change. All of these factors lead to increased poverty among the population of Nicaragua.

This situation prompts locals, for example, to plunder turtle nests, as these represent a lucrative source of income, since turtle eggs are considered a delicacy in Nicaragua. By volunteering in our turtle project, you can make an important contribution to nature and species conservation in Nicaragua and bring alternative, sustainable sources of income closer to the locals.
