Why volunteers are needed in Chile

Although Chile shows strong economic development compared to Latin America, the gap between rich and poor is still wide here. Due to this inequality, there are different social problems in Chile.

A good education is not available for all in Chile

As is often the case in Latin America, state schools in Chile often do not offer quality education. If parents can afford it, they send their sons and daughters to private schools. Children from poorer or poorer families are therefore constantly disadvantaged. Chile has the same problem in higher education, which is why there are repeated protests by students and schoolchildren.

Many people are affected by poverty

Although Chile has developed well economically over the past decade and poverty has decreased, many residents live in precarious conditions, especially on the outskirts of the big cities, in dilapidated social housing or even in slums with shacks made of wood and tin. This poverty is particularly bad for children and they have little chance of escaping it.

Many more problems

From the above social problems arise other ones. For example, they lead to drug abuse and violence, especially among young people without future prospects. In addition, there are also many environmental problems in Chile: For example, in Patagonia, nature is endangered by the construction of dams and there are many street dogs in the cities.
