Volunteer on a horse farm in Peru

What's the matter?

Volunteer at a horse farm in Peru that needs help from volunteers to take care of the animals in the best possible way. The farm has been in existence for 20 years and is home to over 20 horses, a few cows and some chickens, ducks, dogs and cats. The horses take up most of the work.

As a volunteer you can learn a lot on the horse farm. For example, how to trim horses' hooves or how to milk cows and process the milk obtained into various foods such as cheese, yoghurt or butter.

Above all, the aim of your volunteer work on the horse farm in Peru is to ensure the survival of the rescued animals, to give them a good life and to take good care of them.

Your tasks as a volunteer

During your volunteer work at the horse farm in Peru you will take care of the horses. If you are interested or even have previous knowledge about training horses, your support is also welcome in this area. Your area of responsibility will also include organizing, planning and accompanying horseback riding tours. The farm offers this for guests and tourists. They lead to archaeological sites and temples from the pre-Inca period.

As a volunteer, you can also choose a foal at the beginning of your stay, for which you will take responsibility for the entire stay and take care of it lovingly. This includes feeding and caring for the foal, but also training, such as ground work or circus lessons.

Your possible areas of responsibility can be designed flexibly. Depending on what interests you have, you can coordinate with the team on site. You don't necessarily have to work with the horses on the horse farm, because your help and support is needed in many places. You also have the option to get involved in taking care of other animals on the farm, as the cows, chickens and ducks also need some attention. The farm also takes care of rescued street dogs and cats, which you can also help out with.

If you feel like it, you can get involved in other areas besides working with animals, such as helping to maintain and beautify the farm or get involved in field work by harvesting fruits. Mangoes, for example, are grown on the farm and processed into products such as jam or mango chutney. If you enjoy preparing food, you can also help in the kitchen to cook meals and bake cakes or bread yourself.

However, you don't have to worry that hard field work awaits you at the horse farm. For this type of work, the farm has extra employees who take care of irrigating the fields, for example.

If you are several volunteers on the horse farm, you always work as a team. In the morning, your working hours usually start at nine o'clock and go until twelve o'clock. During this time, the horses are worked, ridden or trained with. In the afternoon from three to five o'clock the horses and all other animals are fed and cared for. If there is enough time, the horses will be worked on again. You usually have the rest of the time and weekends free.

Accommodation Catering

During your volunteer work you will live directly on the horse farm. There are different options there. In every accommodation option on the horse farm, you have access to the Internet or WiFi, as well as towels and comfortable beds with sheets and pillows. You can also use a washing machine there.

You have the option of staying in a wooden house, which includes a dining room with a large table, a fully equipped kitchen with a fridge, oven and washing machine, and a bathroom with a shower and hot water. In this wooden house there are two bedrooms, each with two double beds and two wardrobes.

There is another bedroom in another building on the farm, in which there is a twin room with a single and a double bed. The third option is to stay in a bungalow with a double bed and a bunk bed, which also has a bathroom.

There is also a garden with hammocks in front of the bungalow where you can relax with the other volunteers.

From Monday to Saturday you get fresh breakfast, lunch and dinner at the horse farm. Only on Sundays do you have to take care of your own food.

to the project

How far in advance do I have to register?

Ideally your registration takes place at least 3-6 months before the desired departure date, But also short-term registrations are up 1-2 months before the planned departure is possible.

But it could be that your dream project is already booked. In this case we will try together to find a suitable alternative for you.

Can I travel with a friend or in a group?

Yes! On request we enable a double room if you for two with a friend or a friend, or an apartment or other suitable accommodation for groups.

We are very happy to enable our participants to go on a project and share accommodation with friends. Shared accommodation is usually possible both in the volunteer house and with the host family, although the room in the volunteer house may also be shared with other participants. In some locations there is also the option of sharing an apartment.

When registering, please always mention the person(s) traveling with you!

Can I combine projects?

Yes! You can combine projects at one location, at different locations, but also in different countries. It is also possible to combine a project with a trip. You can specify your desired combination directly when registering.

Combination options at a glance:

  1. Combine programs in one country
  2. Combine programs across countries
  3. Combine a program with a language course
  4. Combine a program with ours Adventure & Trips

There are a few things Project combinations to note: The minimum length of stay per project must be observed and you may incur additional costs for country combinations, for example for an intermediate flight.

What visa do I need for Peru?

You do not need a visa for tourist stays of up to 90 days per half year. If you are staying longer than 90 days, you will need proof upon entry that you are leaving the country before the 90 days are up. A bus ticket to a neighboring country is ideal for this. You have the option to request an extension of up to 183 days. The issue is then carried out on site at the migration authority.

General guidelines can be found on the website of the Foreign Office.
