My volunteer work at the horse farm in Peru

My eight weeks on the farm are among the best experiences I have ever had. I felt like part of the family right from day one.

Accommodation Catering

What I particularly liked about everyday life on the farm was the quiet atmosphere and the opportunity to slow down life a bit. One must be aware that the stay is not a typical holiday and should not expect a hotel on site. The farm is very simple, but there is wifi and hot water. It is also easy to get to, whether by bus or taxi.

The food was also very good, always fresh and regional. I especially enjoyed the homemade yoghurt!

Work in the project

Most of the chores revolve around working with the horses: feeding, washing, training etc. I was able to ride several times a week and even learned how to vaccinate a horse.

But even if you'd rather not work with the horses as much, there's plenty of other work to be done, such as crafts (if you ask). Because there are so many different jobs to do on the ranch, everyone can help out and get involved.

Otherwise you can also help Andrea with cooking, making cheese, milking the cows, feeding and caring for the other animals - and there are many of them: cats, dogs, chickens, ducks, cows, ...

The combination of free time and work on the ranch was very good. You have your daily tasks and if you want to do something different, you can just ask for more work. There is still enough time to relax with a book in the hammock or to cuddle with the cute dogs and cats.

leisure

At the weekend I went on a few trips with other volunteers. We went to pyramids, museums, a horse competition, other cities or the beach. Sometimes it was only day trips, sometimes we stayed 1-2 nights in hostels. Then when I returned to the farm, it always felt like coming home.

Andrea and Manuel who own the farm are very welcoming and caring. I felt comfortable there the whole time. I can only recommend this project to anyone who wants to experience an authentic horse farm and become part of a loving community!
