Improving English with volunteering abroad

Would you like to improve your language skills while being socially involved and immersing yourself in a foreign culture? The solution: improve English with volunteer work abroad! Above all, our target countries in Europe and also in Africa - such as South Africa, Namibia, Ghana, Greece, Italy or Togo - are ideal for improving your English or French skills!

As are you without a language course and by the way manage? With a few useful tips:

Improve your English abroad

1. Stay with one of our native host families

At some of our locations you can choose between the accommodation in the Vounteer House and the homestay. We recommend: Opt for a local host family! As a temporary family member of a host family, you gain deep insights into the culture and way of life that is foreign to you. You will also automatically improve your foreign language skills!

As a family member, you often learn a new word or two at breakfast and have a long conversation at dinner. You train your grammar along the way. Of course, you can also actively approach your host family and ask them questions about terms that are unfamiliar to you. By immediately using the newly learned vocabulary, it is automatically stored in your long-term memory. Learning works here in a completely natural way, similar to how a child acquires language.

2. Learning by doing is the motto!

Let's talk!/ Parlons donc! The most important thing is that you are not afraid to just start talking. It doesn't matter if you make a mistake or two. The locals are happy that you speak to them in their language. And finally, practice makes perfect - the more you talk, the easier it will be for you.

3. Everyone can be your teacher

Any person you meet can be a teacher for you as long as you dare to ask questions. Socialize with locals and ask for words and phrases you don't know. You will be amazed at how quickly you will become more confident in dealing with the foreign language! If you are still unsure about a printout, ask the person you are talking to to correct you - this will make minor mistakes disappear very quickly!

4. Small exercises for the long-term success

Do you also want to actively refine your language skills? Then there are different possibilities. For example, you can take a notebook with you to write down the words you've learned during your stay abroad. So you can repeat them later. Another possibility is to keep your travel diary in English, Spanish or French and thus integrate new vocabulary. Or how about English, Spanish or French travel literature for entertainment? You could, for example, get to know the works of a writer in your target country and thus gain cultural added value at the same time.

As you can see, by talking to locals and doing small exercises, you can easily expand your vocabulary and improve your language skills. So will yours Volunteering-Stay also linguistically a success!
