Volunteering in South Africa

Your volunteer work in South Africa is much more than just a holiday trip! South Africa gives you a new attitude towards life and will quickly cast its spell over you. Let yourself be infected by this multifaceted and fascinating world. A colorful mix of different cultures, breathtaking nature and unforgettable experiences await you during your project work in South Africa.

During your stay abroad in South Africa, you will experience the sunny side of one of the most fascinating travel destinations in the world, but you will also gain insights into a socially disadvantaged system. South Africa has been well on the way to becoming a functioning democracy since the end of apartheid. However, active support is still needed in the social as well as in the medical field, in handicrafts as well as in animal and nature protection.

Volunteering in South Africa

Your destination South Africa

During your stay you will have the opportunity, among other things, to get to know the unique Cape Town, which, with its unique surroundings, is one of the most popular travel destinations in the world. Thanks to the Football World Cup 2010, Cape Town was more developed and the infrastructure has been continuously improved ever since.

However, as in most major South African cities, there are still poor communities in the outskirts of Cape Town and Johannesburg. Here are the so-called townships, which stretch like a belt around the center of the cities. With your social commitment in one of our projects, you provide active support and get to know the hospitality and joie de vivre of the locals!

What you should know:

A large part of the township population leaves their homes early in the morning and only returns home late in the evening. Children and young people in these socially disadvantaged families remain uncared for, often do not go to school and, in the worst case, embark on a criminal career. In order to be able to counteract the whole thing, the Children Center was created. They take care of small children in the crèche up to children of primary school age. The children are picked up from their families in pickups in the morning and brought back in the evening. At the Children's Center they get the level of attention they need, comprehensive care and education. The Children Centers are grateful for every helping hand, because the influx of children is large and constantly increasing. For older children and young people there is a similar facility, the so-called After School Clubs, where 6 to 18 year olds are offered a safe and caring environment where they can receive homework help and stabilize their social skills. Help here too and accompany the boys and girls at this crucial age on their way to a life with individual perspectives and opportunities!

Volunteering in South Africa

Let yourself be infected by the South African cheerfulness and immerse yourself in this multifaceted world! The quickest way to do this is to learn a ritual or two from the locals: "Molo Sisi" (literally: "Hello sister!") or "Molo Bhuti" (literally: "Hello brother!"), two hits with the fist on the heart and finally the sign of the Trinity. This way of greeting, which is very common in Cape Town, is guaranteed to open doors to people's hearts!

Teamwork, social commitment and enjoying working in an extraordinary country - is that what you are looking for? Then volunteering in South Africa is the right place for you! Our social projects mostly take place in the underdeveloped outskirts of Cape Town, while our nature and wildlife conservation projects are spread across various nature reserves throughout South Africa. RGV supports in the social area e.g Schools, Kindergärten and After school clubs. We also support local wildlife protection through various volunteer projects. Find the one that suits you and work with you monkeys, penguins or "Big Five". No matter how much experience you have and how your life has gone so far - with your commitment you can make a difference!
