Climate protection project Plant trees

The issue of climate protection concerns us all. Therefore we do something and become active. Together with our team in Tanzania, we are committed to the preservation of our environment and reforest a forest area in Handeni (Tanzania) on. Five trees are planted per volunteer!

The location

Climate change is not a prophecy - we are right in the middle of it. The effects can already be clearly felt in many places. The temperature is rising, droughts are increasing, glaciers are falling, sea levels are rising, extreme weather is becoming more dangerous, the oceans are acidifying and species extinction is progressing. But there is also hope! Natural science knows that physically and technologically it is possible to stop dangerous climate change. Unfortunately, this will be difficult politically, but we will concentrate on what we can do within our means. Reforestation of a forest is the chance to turn back the time a little. However, no free ticket to continue like this. Of course, we know that any flight we don't take is better than compensating for it.

What we do

It is very lucky and enriching to have one among our team leaders in Tanzania Agriculture experts and to have renewable energy. Because planting the trees must not be a snap action that just chases a trend. Currently trees are being planted like wild everywhere, but unfortunately this doesn't always make sense. Climate protection projects of this type should not only benefit the climate itself, but must also agricultural and regional sensible and must not cause any damage.

Since the end of October 2019 are now 2000 teak trees in Handeni have been planted, and there will be more. Teak trees are characterized above all by their rapid growth. Planting the trees helps root the soil, which is useful for storing water during the dry season. The floors are shaded, which has a cooling effect.

There have been huge floods in this area in the past, with many people losing their homes. The reason for this are the big ones Differences between the rainy and dry season. The soils cannot hold the water because they are insufficiently and overgrown. In the dry season, in turn, there is no water in the arable land. They dry up and the farmers cannot cultivate their fields.

The goal

Be through the trees Organic and nutrient balance increased in the soil. Falling leaves cover the floors and create space for all kinds of microorganisms. A healthy forest floor can also absorb large amounts of water in the rainy season and then gradually release it to the environment over the dry season. This prevents floods and floods and the Farmers benefit from the availability of water, nutrients and organic matter in the soil.

For the time being, fast-growing tree species will be used because the water is not yet stored in the soil. The trees become too Beginning of the rainy season planted and can then already in the Rainy season root independently. In the future, as soon as the water availability in the soil increases, native trees will also be planted in order to come as close as possible to a natural mixed forest.

Through this measure jobs created and in the near future this climate protection initiative will become an independent project in which you too can participate! You will then learn a lot about sustainable forestry and do an active job your contribution for climate protection.

Stay tuned!

This page is updated regularly so that you can follow the progress and stay up to date. 30.000 trees are planned on an area of 300.000 square meters and further cultivation areas are planned!

This project is supported by myclimate, Afli and Rainbow Garden Village.
