My experiences in the street children project in Ghana

I really enjoyed my time in Ghana. I experienced incredibly great things and gained experiences that I could never have had in Germany!

I will never forget this time!

Leonie's time in Ghana

travel arrangements

In the time before my stay, I mainly took care of my health care (vaccinations and tablets against malaria).

Arrival in Ghana

After I had my suitcase and left the airport, I was approached directly by security who wanted to call someone for me. When he did this, I was picked up with another volunteer by two other volunteers. When we arrived at the Student House, everyone introduced themselves and we immediately felt at home. Although it's different from Germany, you quickly feel at home.

The project

I was only in a kindergarten, but I didn't feel comfortable there because I was alone in the project. That's why I switched to the street children project, where everything is very different, but for me it was much, much better. The children's day is largely organized by volunteers. The older children are taught by the teacher, but the volunteers can also help. The younger ones get lessons in small groups, where they learn colors and how to write their names, among other things. During the breaks we play with the children on the trampoline, on the swings or paint with them. After class, the children had lunch and then they went home at around 14 p.m.

Switching projects really was the best thing I could have done!

Leisure fun

During the week we often went to the Art Market, the Makola Market, Accra or the Junction Mall after the project. Sometimes I just stayed in the student house and spent the day talking to the other volunteers.

Conclusion of my volunteer work in Ghana

Volunteering is just the best thing you can do, I would definitely do it again and again. You get used to everything and afterwards you don't want to leave. Ghana is a great country and the people there are very open and extremely friendly, you find Ghanaian friends very quickly.

I really enjoyed my time in Ghana. I experienced incredibly great things and gained experiences that I could never have had in Germany!

I will never forget this time!
