Experience report from the marine animals project in South Africa
Sometimes you had absolutely no idea what would happen next, what you would see and experience and that was so exciting! It was great to be part of the project! The employees are all super nice and do their work with passion. Nothing else matters. Thank you for the great time!
Tatjana's time in South Africa
I had two great and exciting weeks in the marine animal project in March! First, I have to say that I never thought that I could gain so much experience in just two weeks.
The arrival on site
After arriving at the accomodation I was warmly welcomed and got a tour guide. The same evening I was introduced to the program for the upcoming week.
The work in the sea animals project
We have dissected stranded dolphins and seals, I have done many hikes with breathtaking views. I also experienced great boat trips where I could see dolphins and seals. Of course we also learned a lot about the animals and their behavior.
My favorite moment was the day we spotted seals in the beautiful Robberg Reserve. Sunshine, an amazing view and some music, it felt like meditation! But it got even better! I saw a dark shadow in the sea, "travel east" I documented. It was a whale! I couldn't believe I just saw a whale and then such a big one! It happened again a week later! Seeing whales close to shore at this time of year is very unusual. And that is also my summary for the entire stay.
My conclusion to the marine animals project
Sometimes you had absolutely no idea what would happen next, what you would see and experience and that was so exciting! It was great to be part of the project! The employees are all super nice and do their work with passion. Nothing else matters. Thank you for the great time!
