Arrival in Tanzania
Day 1 -

Arrive in Tanzania at Kilimanjaro International Airport

Welcome to Tanzania! After clearing customs and immigration formalities upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be greeted by our driver and guide and transferred to your accommodation. You will then receive detailed instructions on how to climb the mountain, during which your climbing equipment will also be checked. The rest of the day is yours to relax and use to prepare for the adventure!

Day 2 -

Machame Gate (1.800m) – Machame Camp (2.980m)

Hiking time: 7 h | Distance: approx. 18 km | Landscape: mountain forest

Here we go! We will pick you up from Arusha (1400m) early in the morning and take you to Machame Village. From there, depending on the condition of the road, we either drive three kilometers further or walk to Machame Gate (1.800m), where final preparations, such as loading your luggage and registering in the national park, take place before your hike starts on the mountain. First it goes through dense rainforest, where with a bit of luck you will see Colobus monkeys or other wild animals! In the late afternoon or early evening we will reach Machame Camp (2.980m) where your tent and dinner will be waiting for you!

Hike to Kilimanjaro
Day 3 -

Machame Camp (2.900m) – Shira Camp (3.750m)

Hiking time: 6 h | Distance: approx. 9 km | Landscape: moorland

We start with the ascent that takes us out of the rainforest and into the heath and moorland. On the way to Shira Camp (3.750m) you will cross many streams and hike over a rocky ridge to the Shira Plateau. Arriving at the campsite you have a spectacular view of the Western Breach and its glaciers to the east. Just like on the first night, the tents will be set up before you arrive at the camp and drinking and washing water will be prepared for you. You can end the evening comfortably with a snack and then with dinner prepared by our chef. Expect a cold night as temperatures drop below freezing in this exposed camp.

Day 4 -

Shira (3.750m) - Lava Tower (4.630m) - Barranco Camp (3.950m)

Hiking time: 7 h | Distance: approx. 15 km | Landscape: stone desert

We leave the moorland and enter the rocky desert and rocky landscape. After a five-hour hike east, we arrive at Lava Tower (4.630m), where you have the opportunity to climb the massive peak, weather permitting. At this point in the trek, you will slowly acclimatize to the effects of altitude. After lunch, the approximately two-hour descent from Lava Tower (4.630m) to Barranco Camp (3.950m) takes place. This is located in a valley below the Barranco Wall (“Breakfast Wall”), from where you can watch a beautiful sunset.

Camp at Kilimanjaro
Day 5 -

Barranco Camp (3.950m) – Karanga Camp (4.670m)

Hiking time: 4-5 h | Distance: approx. 5 km | Landscape: Alpine dry landscape

It continues with the ascent of the great Barranco Wall! Once at the top, you will be above the clouds and also have a unique view of the Heim Glacier. The further way then winds up and down in the Karanga valley until we finally arrive at the camp.

Day 6 -

Karanga Camp (3.950m) - Barafu Camp (4.670m) - Mweka Camp (3100m)

Hiking time: 4-5 h | Distance: approx. 8 km | Landscape: Alpine dry landscape

Today we go via Karanga Camp (3.960m) to Barafu Hut and then on to Barafu Camp (4.670m), which is located on a rocky, exposed ridge. After an early dinner, your guide will brief and prepare you for the upcoming summit night. At 19 p.m. you go to bed, because a special ascent awaits you! Then the time has come! At midnight we start our hike up to the highest point in Africa, the Uhuru Peak. You will experience an impressive hike under a magnificent starry sky. After about five hours we reach "Stella Point" (5.750m) and if you want to go all the way to the summit, you can hike up another hour to Uhuru Peak (5.890m). Once there, you will see the impressive glaciers of Kibos and enjoy the views of the country. You managed!

Happy travelers on Kilimanjaro
Day 7 -

Mweka Camp (3100m) – Mweka Gate (1980m)

After a well-deserved breakfast, there will be extensive celebrations, dancing and singing. We then descend for three hours back to Mweka Gate where you will receive a certificate of completion of the hike from the national park. After handing over the certificates, it takes about another hour to the village of Mweka. A hot lunch will be served there before we drive back to Arusha to take a soothing shower and continue the partying.
