Volunteering at a primary school in South Africa

In addition to the tasks as a "teacher's assistant", I also had time to talk to my supervising teacher, during which I learned a lot about the culture and the country. It was an incredible experience that enriched me a lot. I will never forget this time! I'm already thinking about the next time I'll go to South Africa as a volunteer.

Katalina's time in South Africa

Work in primary school

In July I went to Cape Town with RGV as a volunteer for 4 weeks. As a project, I had chosen to work at an elementary school. My main task in the project was to help the students with their tasks in the subjects math, English and life science. Sometimes the class was split up and I was solely responsible for smaller groups of students.

In addition to the tasks as a "teacher's assistant", I also had time to talk to my supervising teacher, during which I learned a lot about the culture and the country. I really enjoyed the project!

The accommodation

During my time in Cape Town I stayed in the large student house. The accommodation was perfectly fine and the girls in the house quickly became friends. I always had someone to explore Cape Town with, walk to the project or just talk to. We all got along really well and it's not far to the other volunteer accommodations.

My free time in Cape Town

There is so much to see in and around Cape Town that we volunteers used every day off and also the afternoons to see as much as possible. I can't really decide what my highlight was. A safari, the Cape of Good Hope and the penguins at Boulders Beach should definitely not be missed. For anyone who would like to see Cape Town from above, I can only recommend a paragliding flight from Signal Hill!

Conclusion in my time as a volunteer

It was an incredible experience that enriched me a lot. I will never forget this time!
I'm already thinking about the next time I'm going to South Africa as a volunteer.
