My volunteer work at a primary school in South Africa

I had to help the children mainly with math and English because they had quite a lot of problems in these subjects. I enjoyed helping the children and seeing their progress. It was difficult for me to say goodbye at the end of my stay, because I grew very fond of the children.

Nora time in South Africa

In July I traveled to Cape Town for five weeks to work as a volunteer in a primary school. I worked from 8:00 a.m. to 14:30 p.m. every day. My main task was to help the students with their assignments or to check assignments. However, I was not able to teach independently.

Lodging

I was accommodated in the smaller student house, where a maximum of 12 volunteers live. The other volunteers were also all nice, respectful and open; it was therefore quite pleasant to live with these people for a few weeks. The other girls house is also only 2 minutes away from the smaller student house, so I often did something with the girls who lived there. I would definitely recommend the Studenthouse because you always have someone around you to do something with or just to chat.

Leisure time in Cape Town

There was never a dull moment in Cape Town because there is just so much to do there. My highlights include the safari I did just outside of Cape Town and the Cape of Good Hope. Don't miss the view from Table Mountain or Lion's Head. Otherwise, Signal Hill or the numerous beaches are great for watching the sunrise or sunset. The various food markets are also highly recommended (especially for those who don't like to cook themselves and want to get delicious food for little money).

Conclusion

It was definitely a great experience and I will never forget the time I had there. I will definitely fly there again.
