Report on volunteering in kindergarten in South Africa

My time in Cape Town was indescribably beautiful. Even if I could only stay for five weeks, this time has shaped me as hardly anything else in my life. The project work in the kindergarten was incredibly fulfilling. Every day you are literally infected by the joy of children and takes a lot of positive energy.

Jonas time in South Africa

The workday in kindergarten

The tasks included playing with the children in particular, because with 40-50 children per class and teacher there is hardly any time to take care of the children. In addition, I stepped in as a helping hand wherever it was needed: preparing mattresses for the afternoon nap, serving food, organizing music for the final concerts. There was always enough to do and the kindergarten teachers were always happy and grateful to receive support.

Free time as a volunteer in Cape Town

Cape Town also definitely scored with leisure activities. In addition to the typical tourist attractions such as Table Mountain, the Cape of Good Hope, etc., the free time after the project often offered enough time for a visit to the beach or a shopping trip in one of the malls. Since I lived in one of the student houses, it never got boring in the evenings and you often had good conversations with the other roommates while cooking and eating together. Another highlight was the safari booked through RGV. The weather didn't quite play along, but thanks to a good safari guide, we still got to see the "Big Five" and many other wild animals. And the evening activities with the other participants of the safari made for unforgettable moments.

On site: accommodation & team

The support provided by RGV on site was also perfectly fine. You didn't have the feeling that you were being monitored by anyone, but the employees on site always had an open ear. The accommodation corresponds to the South African standard, which you have to get used to (lack of water, no heating...), but after a few days this is no longer a problem and you can easily cope with all circumstances.

My conclusion: unforgettable

All in all, I can only say that the time in Cape Town was absolutely unforgettable and I would repeat it at any time in a heartbeat. I can recommend everyone to do volunteer work in Cape Town, especially the social institutions offer a really great experience!!
