Experience report from a South African children's center

It is beautiful and you look forward to the coming working day every day. The tasks in the project also included feeding, brushing teeth and cuddling with the children. If you have a group of children sitting in front of you and you are unsure at the beginning how you should behave towards the children, 2 weeks later they have already taken you firmly into their hearts, want to hug you, cuddle and preferably never let go again . An incredibly beautiful feeling!

Jonas time in South Africa

My name is Jonas and I am 18 years old. After graduating from high school in the summer of 2017 I had a little bit of air and I really wanted to do something meaningful before I started an apprenticeship or a degree. I had been dealing with the topic for over a year and it was clear to me: I want to help South Africa, disadvantaged children.

The work in the project

After my introductory week in Cape Town, I was warmly welcomed into the project. All classes were introduced to me and I was able to get a taste of each class. In the end I chose the baby class and I don't regret that at all. What should you be prepared for? Strictly smelling diapers, loud screeching and bitching among the children. But even if that sounds daunting at first.

It is beautiful and you look forward to the coming working day every day. The tasks in the project also included feeding, brushing teeth and cuddling with the children. Recreation

My working hours from Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 15 p.m. gave me enough time to do various activities in the afternoon or at the weekend. So I went on a safari, visited the Cape and did many other exciting things.

My accommodation

I was accommodated in the Student House, which is not far from Cape Town. You definitely have to adjust to the fact that you are in Africa and have a completely different standard here. Don't expect luxury. Nevertheless, the accommodation and food was fine. However, due to the current water scarcity in Cape Town, there have been some restrictions on us in terms of water use.

Conclusion

It was a great time and I got many indescribable impressions that I can never tell you how I experienced them. I can only recommend everyone to do volunteer work in Cape Town. Your help is needed and appreciated.
