Experience report from the kindergarten in South Africa

The children were happy about our presence every day. They hugged us, wanted to be teased and were very happy when we played with them. We really enjoyed doing something good for the children and putting a smile on their faces. The kindergarten teachers welcomed us and we were given our own tasks.

Jessie and Nicolo's time in South Africa

Together to South Africa!

After graduating from high school, my boyfriend and I decided to do an RGV project abroad. After great advice from the RGV team, we decided to sign up for a 4-week internship at a kindergarten in South Africa. The travel preparations went smoothly and the RGV team had an open ear for even the smallest question.

Arrival and accommodation in Cape Town

As soon as we arrived in Cape Town, we met other nice volunteers and were picked up by the RGV team on site. We stayed in an apartment and since other volunteers lived across from us in a host family, we rented a car together.

Our kindergarten project

The project in the kindergarten was a lot of fun for us. The children were happy about our presence every day. They hugged us, wanted to be teased and were very happy when we played with them. We really enjoyed doing something good for the children and putting a smile on their faces. The kindergarten teachers welcomed us and we were given our own tasks.

Numerous leisure opportunities in Cape Town

In our free time we went on many trips with our car and visited beautiful places. The trip to the Cape of Good Hope, which takes you past Muizenberg, the penguin colony in Boulders Beach and almost exclusively by the sea, is really fun and a great experience. We also spent a wonderful day on Table Mountain, which offers a fantastic view over the whole of Cape Town. Overall, Cape Town offers countless opportunities to spend your free time. The many markets with souvenirs, small shops and museums or the diverse restaurants in the city are a must. The safari tour we booked with RGV was also a highlight of our stay in South Africa. We marveled at lions, giraffes, elephants, rhinos and much more. We stayed in a small but very comfortable and beautiful lodge.

Conclusion on our RGV internship abroad in South Africa

Our volunteering in Cape Town was an unforgettable experience. We also learned a lot about African conditions and in our free time we experienced beautiful moments during our excursions. We are glad we chose South Africa as it is a beautiful country, with particularly friendly people and wonderful places.
