Experience report from the dog relief project in Sri Lanka

My work as a volunteer was extremely varied. I didn't feel like cheap labor or bored, on the contrary, I immediately felt a full part of this project. So I got very good insights into veterinary medicine (I myself am a hotel manager by profession), and was also allowed to provide medical assistance in some cases, for example with the daily administration of medicine and caring for the coat and ears.

Melanie's time in Sri Lanka

An honest, unique project with a heart!

I am very happy that I decided to do this unique project. RGV was a great support, took care of everything in advance and prepared me for the trip in the best possible way.

The project and my activities as a volunteer

My work as a volunteer was extremely varied. I didn't feel like cheap labor or bored, on the contrary, I immediately felt a full part of this project. So I got very good insights into veterinary medicine (I myself am a hotel manager by profession), and was also allowed to provide medical assistance in some cases, for example with the daily administration of medicine and caring for the coat and ears.

I was allowed to show visitors the clinic on site, took part in feeding tours outside the clinic, played a lot with the dogs, was allowed to take great photos for the Facebook page and got very good insights into the life of the locals. I felt very well looked after in this project, had great, fully furnished accommodation and can only recommend it.

I always had enough time to get to know the country and its people better. It really is a unique, honest project, incredibly well organized and with great attention to detail. It helps people and animals, since more than 30 Sinhalese now have a secure, above-average paid job in this project. It's nice to see how much heart is put into this project and that there are people like Marina who put their heart and soul into the well-being of people and animals.

A positive experience & future commitment too!

Thank you for this opportunity to gain new experiences that have had a lasting and positive impact on me. Even after my time as a volunteer, I will remain loyal to this project and support it.
