My experiences in the Husky project in Swedish Lapland

I took part in the husky project in Lapland this summer. It was really great two weeks there, I would have loved to have stayed longer.

Preparation and arrival in Sweden

Starting with the transfer from the airport to the return trip home, everything organizational went smoothly and uncomplicated thanks to the good preparations by the RGV team. Right from the start I felt very well looked after and at ease.

My time in the project

When I got there, I got along really well with everyone. While I was there, we were two volunteers. Everything was explained to us during the first few days and I knew almost all the names of the dogs on the second day. Although at first I had doubts about whether I could really remember them all.

The tasks in the project

In general, the days there were divided into four different task areas: Dogs, Inside, Help, Off. The dog, inside and off service was twice a week for everyone, the help service once. This gave you a good variety and no day was like the other. There was still a structured daily routine and you could always ask if help was needed. In the first week we also went for a walk with the puppies several times a day. That was also a lot of fun for me personally.

Accommodation in Lapland

In the rooms for the volunteers there are bunk beds. A total of four people could have slept in my room. However, while I was there, I had the entire room to myself. I was also lucky that new puppies arrived just as I was there. The two stayed in the house for a week before they went out to the other dogs. They were really extremely cute.

In conclusion, I can only say that I will definitely come back if the opportunity arises. I am over the moon that I decided to take on the project! It was really great two weeks there and I would have loved to have stayed longer.
