Windhoek - Sossusvlei
Let's start the tour! We leave Windhoek and head south to the city of Rehoboth. To get away from the big roads and get closer to nature, we soon turn onto a gravel road. Here you can already enjoy the constantly changing landscape from savannah, semi-desert to extreme desert. A quick stop at the small settlement of Solitaire provides refreshments and some snacks. We then continue our journey and arrive at the campsite of Sesriem in the late afternoon. After setting up the tent, we take a short hike to the Elim Dunes where you can experience and marvel at a beautiful sunset. (a)
Sossusvlei
We wake up early in the morning to catch the soft light of the desert sunrise. We spend much of the day climbing Big Daddy Dune, the second largest dune in the world. It's a strenuous climb, but the views you'll have along the ridge are totally worth it! The descent takes us to the ancient camelthorn trees of Dead Vlei - one of the most photographed areas in Sossusvlei. You too will have plenty of time to take souvenir photos as we spend the morning in and around Sossusvlei and also visit Dune 45. Later in the day we return to Sesriem for lunch to escape the afternoon heat. In the late afternoon, when the temperature has cooled down a bit, we take a short trip to the Sesriem Canyon, which gives you an impressive insight into Namibia's geological history. (B, M, A)
Sossusvlei - Windhoek
We start the day early at 5 a.m. to climb Dune 45, which we visited the day before. Here you will experience an unforgettable sunrise. After that we return to our campsite for breakfast. After everything is packed up, we begin our journey over the mountains and along scenic roads back to Windhoek. As on the way out, we stop in Solitaire for a short break and stretch our legs before heading back to civilization via the Khomas Highland mountains. We will probably arrive in Windhoek in the late afternoon. (F)
