Your journey into the winter week in Swedish Lapland
You will be picked up at the airport in Arvidsjaur and taken to your accommodation. The drive through the quiet and wide landscape of Sweden takes about an hour. When you arrive at the husky farm, the team will show you your cozy accommodation. You live in a traditional Swedish country house (with WiFi) during your Swedish winter week. After you've stowed away your belongings, everyone meets in the main building for a welcome dinner. You discuss the course of the next few days and get to know each other.
Musher workshop and first ride across the big lake Storavan
You start every morning at 8:00 a.m. together with the other participants by feeding the dogs. At 9:00 am there is breakfast together and the day is discussed. The equipment will then be distributed and the musher workshop will start at 10:30 am. The team talks about itself, talks about keeping dogs and driving a dog sled. You get to know all the dogs, prepare the sledges together with the others and off you go with the first tour with the dog team. The trip goes over the large lake Storavan and takes about an hour. At about 13:00 p.m. you unhitch the dogs and go to lunch together. In the afternoons you spend time with the dogs and questions can be asked and the first experiences discussed. At 18 p.m. there is dinner for the four-legged friends and at 00 p.m. you have dinner together. There is traditional Swedish cuisine - there is a lot new to discover and enjoy!
18km dog sled ride
As every morning, the dogs are fed around 8:00 a.m. and then at 9:00 a.m. The two-hour tour is prepared at around 10:30 a.m.: prepare the sled, harness and harness the dogs. Today the tour will be a little more demanding than the day before. It goes 18km over lakes, through forests and over a smaller mountain called Njuöniesvarrie. From there you have a fantastic view over the Storavan with its small, snow-covered islands. At around 13 p.m. you will be back on the husky farm, and after taking care of the dogs you will strengthen yourself with a warming lunch. In the afternoon you can relax in the sauna or let the team show you ice fishing. Snowmobile tours are also possible (on request). At 00 p.m. you end the day with a classic Swedish dish.
Adventure drive overnight tour
Today we go on an overnight tour. That means, pack first and prepare everything for an unforgettable adventure. The journey begins over the large lake Storavan and continues over other lakes, past small sleepy islands and a wonderful landscape. Sweden offers a more than fantastic winter landscape and every meter is worth seeing. Enjoy the rest on the runners and only the dogs panting in your ears. After about 55km with a short lunch break on the sledge you will reach the hut "Holastugan". There the sleeping places are built, soup is cooked and the hut is heated. Enjoy the tranquility of the wilderness and let this special atmosphere work on you.
Wood-fired pancakes
After a restful sleep in the wilderness hut, the day begins as usual, that is, the dogs are taken care of first and then you have your own breakfast; there are pancakes from the wood-fired oven - a real treat for the palate and soul. Today there are 60km of wild Swedish landscape on the program to be explored. Between mountains and valleys, dense forests, frozen lakes and past reindeer gates you make your way with the dog sled and you might even see an elk. After a lunch snack, we continue, again over the Storavan to the next hut, where you can end the evening together.
Husky ride on Storbatje mountain
This morning you treat yourself to a hearty breakfast to strengthen yourself for the last section of the journey. It goes through snow-covered forests and frozen swamps that would be inaccessible in summer. Today's destination is the Storbatje mountain, after a steep ascent you will reward yourself with a breathtakingly beautiful view of large parts of the Arjeplog region. You will find a place to rest and snack and as soon as everyone has recovered, you go back to the husky farm. After the dogs have been taken care of, you will find yourself for a cozy dinner by the fireplace and indulge in the memories of the past few days.
Snowshoe hike
Today is a snowshoe hike that will take you to the small mountain Jalgga. For lunch there are sausages and sandwiches around the campfire, and after you've relaxed enough, you continue through the deep snow. In the evening you will prepare a delicious meal with elk meat, of course fresh from the region, processed by local hunters.
You are welcome to join the team again on your last day to look after the dogs and say goodbye to your darlings. After breakfast you pack your things and of course you will be brought back to Arvidsjaur Airport. The team at the husky farm is also looking forward to visiting their small, family-run company again.
