Business Administration Internship in Tanzania

What's the matter?

Due to its constant economic growth, Tanzania is considered the "Rising star of Africa". As one of the most dynamic economic powers in sub-Saharan Africa, the East African country offers you an interesting location to complete your internship abroad. We arrange individually tailored internship positions in international companies as well as in medium-sized companies.

Most of our internship positions are in Dar es Salaam, the economic center of the country. Your internship abroad enables you to gain practical work experience in the field of business administration and/or economics (VWL/BWL). In addition, you will acquire valuable intercultural skills, improve your foreign language skills and demonstrate your independence to future employers. An advantage on the job market!

Requirements for the job

  • With and without previous knowledge possible
  • Good English knowledge
  • Interest in economics
  • Teamwork
  • Cultural openness

Your internship abroad in the field of business administration and economics

For whom is the internship suitable?

This internship abroad is suitable for students of economics who would like to combine their internship with a stay abroad, as well as for high school graduates who would like to gain an insight into the professional field. Previous technical knowledge is helpful, but not a requirement. Above all, you should have a great interest in economic issues.

Your possible internships

Our internship positions are located in Tanzania's economic center Dar es Salaam. Near the coast there are possible internships, especially in food production and in the tourism industry. In addition, the service sector offers numerous internship positions. In which area you will be employed depends entirely on the company in which you are doing your internship and your personal previous knowledge. Basically, you work at all assignment sites in a team with your local colleagues, so that you get valuable insights into the working methods on site.

Just get in touch with us! We are looking for a BWL or VWL internship tailored to your expectations and needs.

Possibility to recognize your internship abroad

If you would like to have your RGV internship abroad recognized as part of your studies or training, be sure to inform yourself beforehand about the regulations of your university or your training company. Usually there are special requirements regarding the duration and the activities. Some institutions also require written work to be completed. Please inform us in advance about the templates from the university/training company so that everything can run smoothly.

Regardless of whether you are doing a mandatory or orientation internship - after completing your RGV stay abroad, you will receive a certificate of participation from us.

Your working day in the internship

Your exact working hours depend on your assignment and will be discussed with you on site. Basically, you work a maximum of 40 hours on 5 days a week.

Accommodation Catering

Guest house in Dar es Salaam

In Dar es Salaam you live with Kelvin's family in a stone house. The building is located in a quiet suburb of Dar es Salaam, in a gated community. In the house there are four bedrooms with mosquito nets and fans; two of the bedrooms are intended for the volunteers. A maximum of five volunteers stay in each of the two bedrooms – separated by gender.

The house also has a large patio with a sofa, a kitchen with a gas cooker and fridge, and a living/dining area with a TV, sofas, dining table, etc. The bathroom has a shower and a French flush toilet. WiFi usually works. In the accommodation you get half board; dinner usually consists of beans, rice and salad.

It is 30 km to the city center, 5 km to the beach and 2 km to the nearest market. There are regular buses to Dar es Salaam and Bagamoyo (cost per trip: around 50 cents). For other trips you can book a 3 Wheeler (Mototaxi).

Location

Dar es Salaam

Dar es Salaam is a bustling city on the Indian Ocean coast. Multicultural and a lively city beach - you will discover this and much more at our project location. The coastal town has developed from a fishing village to a metropolis over the past 100 years. Over 4 million people live in an area roughly twice the size of Berlin. Even today you can still find remnants of bygone times on every corner. Imposing buildings and structures in the city center always take you back to the colonial history of Tanzania.

But you can also feel the international flair everywhere. In hardly any other African city do so many different ethnic groups live together. Accordingly, the culinary selection is also diverse - trying the delicious and spicy street food is therefore an absolute must!

If you would like to immerse yourself in life in an African city, Dar es Salaam is definitely a good idea! Experience the hustle and bustle, explore the different districts and relax comfortably on the beach!

What are the project fees used for?

Although we are a non-profit organization, there are costs associated with volunteering abroad. Find out here, why volunteering requires money and what your project fee is used for.

Which visa do I need for Tanzania?

For Tanzania you need a business visa. You can apply for this either online before your trip or directly upon entry at the airport. It is valid for 90 days and costs around €250. If you enter with a tourist visa, you can convert it into a business visa on site.

Participants from Switzerland must have the visa Globetrotter.ch apply for.

For projects in Arusha, a student visa is sufficient, which must be applied for online in advance and is valid for 90 days. This costs around €50, with a possible additional €200 for a work permit.

You will receive all the necessary documents and further information for the application from us after you register.

What language skills do I need for the project in Tanzania?

In order to be able to communicate well with the team on site, you should definitely have knowledge of English. A Swahili course is also recommended.

What vaccinations/ health precautions do I need?

If you are traveling from a yellow fever area, you need a yellow fever vaccination. Otherwise there are no compulsory vaccinations.
