Psychology internship in Tanzania

What's the matter?

Mentally ill people in Tanzania are often seen as bewitched, so families often turn to a medicine man first. The diseases are usually already advanced when the patients seek specialized help. You can expect a wide range of activities at assignment sites that will enable you to gain deep insights into the work of psychologists and therapists in Tanzania. You will gain valuable practical work experience, improve your language skills and acquire intercultural skills. You can also discover the unique beauties of Tanzania, such as the Serengeti and Kilimanjaro.

Your internship abroad in the field of psychology

For whom is the internship suitable?

The psychology internship in Tanzania is suitable for psychology students who want to specialize in developmental psychology, social psychology, learning psychology or personality psychology. Your internship position will be selected individually according to your previous knowledge and interests and is located in the scenically breathtaking region of Iringa.

Your placements for the psychology internship in Tanzania

You have the opportunity to complete your internship in Counseling at the University of Iringa or the Soberhouse. A mixture is also possible here.

Your activities as an intern in the psychological field

The activities of your internship abroad depend on the respective place of assignment. In general, you accompany the specialist staff in the facility, help with the care and thus gain insight into the therapy of the patients. For example, you support group therapies by being present as an attentive listener. Or you bring your own ideas for activations and thus ensure variety in the everyday life of the patients. For example, you can do games and sports exercises or work together on the development of new projects. At the university you can also get involved in fundraising or teaching.

Children and people with disabilities in particular often show behavioral problems due to the difficult circumstances they come from. Some of them have suffered trauma. Working with mentally handicapped children is ideal for students specializing in learning psychology and psychology in education.
