Teaching Internship in Nepal

In Chitwan you have the possibility to choose between three different types of accommodation:

• host family
• Volunteer House
• Hotel

You live with a maximum of one other volunteer in a host family. Since all of the host families are in close proximity to one another, all of the participants are, so to speak, neighbours. The houses of our families are very simple, partly built with clay, but clean.

You also have the option of being accommodated in a volunteer house with a maximum of six other participants or, depending on availability, in a small hotel. Both buildings are on the same property.

You have to wash the laundry yourself or hand it in for a fee for hand washing. We provide you with internet access via a small hotel in the same village. You can also buy a SIM card for your mobile phone. The best thing to do is to ask our team on site.

Important for you to know: The electricity is regularly shut off nationwide for up to 12 hours. In addition, there is only water from a pump and showering or washing is usually done in the open air in a bush shower.

During your volunteer work or your internship abroad, you will receive two meals a day. There is usually no breakfast in the traditional sense in Nepal. Tea is drunk in the morning and around 9 o'clock there is a simple meal of rice and vegetables, sometimes with chicken. In the evening around 19 p.m. you also get a dish of rice and vegetables. At lunchtime, tea is mainly drunk. In the school projects, it is possible to buy lunch in the canteen for around 10 rupees. Otherwise, most RGV participants eat cookies and fruit they have brought with them for lunch.

During your assignment in Kathmandu you will be accommodated in the guest house of one of our team members, which is located in the center of the city. The rooms here are very modern and there is WLAN reception throughout the house. Special highlights of the guest house are the fitness room and the large lounge, which is equipped with a large TV, a projector and a karaoke machine. You will be provided with breakfast and dinner at the accommodation.

From here you can easily reach everything you need - from restaurants and shops for everyday use to numerous shops with souvenirs for your friends and family at home. The tourist center of Kathmandu is also not far from your accommodation, so you can easily walk there. There you will meet people from all over the world and you can feast your way around the globe in the lively pubs and restaurants.

Nepal is a country of superlatives! In the small Asian state, much of the Himalayas are home to the world's highest mountain, Mount Everest (8848 meters) and seven other eight-thousanders.

But Nepal has much more to offer than these snow-capped giants! More than 60 ethnic groups with many different traditions and religious customs live in Nepal. The old royal cities of Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur are also well worth seeing.

No matter where you are in the country, friendly people will meet you everywhere.

Kathmandu,

Located in the center of the country, Kathmandu has been described in mystical Hindu and Buddhist legends dating back thousands of years. However, the capital is not only a cultural center, but also a political one: embassies of many countries and organizations for development aid are based in Kathmandu. The cityscape is characterized by tall buildings in a metropolitan style. The traditional old town, on the other hand, is peppered with Hindu temples and other religious buildings. You will also find many traditional shops with numerous spices, carvings and fabrics in the dreamy alleys of the old town!

If you want to experience colorful lights, historic temples and the breathtaking panorama of the Himalayas and immerse yourself completely in this fascinating world, Kathmandu is the place for you!

Chitwan,

Chitwan National Park is located in southern Nepal, in the foothills of the Himalayas, bordering India. The park itself stretches over an incredible 932 square kilometers! Animal species that live here include rhinos, leopards, bears and the 'king of the jungle': the Bengal tiger. Within Chitwan there are also a variety of resorts where you can not only stay, but also go on exciting safaris. 

Nature lovers and animal lovers will never get bored here! If you also want to get to know village life in Nepal, you've come to the right place!

Kathmandu,

Kathmandu is an exciting city with lots to discover. As part of the hippie trail, the Nepalese capital is a popular destination for hippies, but also for tourists from all over the world. You will feel this especially in the Thamel district. The district is considered the tourist hub of the city with its large number of restaurants and bars that invite you to linger.

It gets historical at Durbar Square. Here are the impressive Royal Palace and more than 50 pagodas, stupas, temples and palaces. The UNESCO World Heritage Site is not only popular with tourists, but many locals also like to spend time there.

You can find a similar place in Lalitpur, the city of beauty. The city is right next to Kathmandu and, in addition to Durbar Square, is particularly enchanting with its golden temple and the Buddhist cityscape.

If you have a little more time available, a trip to Nagarkot, about 32 kilometers away, is worthwhile. From there you have a fabulous view of the highest mountain range in the world: the Himalayas.

Chitwan,

When you do your volunteer work in Chitwan, you can expect various leisure activities such as excursions in the national park, trekking tours and safaris through the Nepalese jungle. With a bit of luck you can spot native animals such as rhinos, leopards, bears, Bengal cats, jackals, foxes, honey badgers, mongooses, snakes, monitor lizards and the infamous Bengal tiger. 

If you are interested in birds, then a bird watching tour is for you. It is best to inquire at the park's department. There you can book various tours and offers.

Even if Chitwan and Kathmandu are about 180 kilometers apart, you should consider paying a visit to the city, for example after your volunteer work. When else will this unique opportunity come up again?
