Volunteer projects for people with disabilities
You have a disability and would like to do volunteer work abroad? Together we will find a way for you to get involved as a volunteer in one of our programs.
We attach great importance to inclusion. No matter what kind of handicap you have - together we will find an individual strategy for your best possible stay abroad! Because the equality and equality of all people is very important to us. That is why it is important to us to provide you with individual advice! The project described here is just one example of a possible program for volunteers with disabilities. So please take it Contact Contact us to find a suitable project for you!
What's the matter?
People with disabilities are often disadvantaged in Tanzania due to ignorance. The government also pays too little attention to the rights of people with hearing and visual problems. Against this background, our charitable outposts were founded in Tanzania, which are committed to the education and integration of the deaf and blind.
Your place of work is a school for people with hearing or visual impairments in Iringa, in the interior of Tanzania. It is an institution with a dormitory for students, which is financed by a non-profit organization. Children and young people between the ages of 6 and 15 are taught here. Furthermore, smaller projects and activities take place, such as a gardening project. There is also a kitchen, a soccer field and a garden.
In addition to sign language, Swahili and some English are spoken at school. The aim is to give deaf and blind children and young people access to education and integration. Value is also placed on the promotion of life skills and the best possible development of those affected. The children and young people should be enabled to lead a largely independent life. As a volunteer, you contribute to the sustainable improvement of the educational and care offerings.
Your tasks as a volunteer
You support the teachers on site in their activities so that the children and young people can be cared for more intensively. If you are already experienced in teaching the deaf, you also have the opportunity to design the lessons yourself. You will also carry out various projects and activities with the students. For example, you can use them to grow vegetables, take care of the facility's animals, cook or do sports.
You are also welcome to get involved in the planning and implementation of new school projects. In addition, you have the opportunity to support the team in the facility in the administrative area or take over the night care in the dormitory.
As a volunteer, you will work 5 days a week and around 7 hours a day at your assignment site. You are at your school from morning to early afternoon and lend a hand where your support is needed. In between you have a longer break, during which you can strengthen yourself with a lunch you have brought with you. The children are happy when you eat lunch with them. If you are interested, you can also get involved later in the afternoon and set up games and sports, for example.
Important note: At some schools in Tanzania, punishment with a cane is one of the common educational methods. This type of punishment has disappeared from classrooms in Germany, Austria and Switzerland for decades. As a volunteer, you naturally teach without a stick. However, we want you to know about the cane, not be shocked, and handle the situation responsibly. Our on-site team management and program coordination in Munich are a good place to go if you want to talk about the topic or need support.

After your arrival, she will take you directly to your accommodation so that you can recover from your journey. Your host father Kelvin will welcome you and show you your new temporary home. As soon as you have arrived correctly and have had a good night's sleep, your orientation program begins.
Orientation program in Dar es Salaam
Your orientation program starts together with the RGV team in Dar es Salaam. Ester introduces you to the culture and lifestyle of the local people. This will make it easier for you to get used to it. Ester will also give you valuable tips on safety and hygiene on site.
Your first day in the project
As soon as you have familiarized yourself with everything, you can start with your project work. To do this, you will drive to the deployment site together with one of our team members the next day.
